It’s All About the Dough was born from the ideas of two bakery training program participants, Elijah and Malikai. After every baking class, participants were allowed to take home whatever it was they made that day, the idea being that they would share it with their families or friends.
However, when Elijah and Malikai showed up to the next week’s class and were asked by the instructors, “How did your family enjoy the bread you baked?”, their response was “Oh, we didn’t take it home; we sold it!”
While they were enthusiastic about the opportunity to make a quick buck off the bread they made, we saw something more. We saw an opportunity for honing entrepreneurial skills and building wealth, making dough in both the literal and figurative sense. Thus, the idea for an entrepreneurial learning incubator was born.
Baking has always been at the center of Our Daily Bread’s programming. It is an avenue in which our participants can develop professional skills such as leadership, team building, discipline, sanitation skills, and even gain their ServSafe certification.
It’s All About the Dough allows participants to take the professional skills they have developed and channel them into something new - entrepreneurship. Through work-based learning, business development classes, and community-building experiences, participants are provided with the knowledge and resources they need to develop and launch their own businesses.
